Hello 👋

I have an amateur curiosity in money trends and the impact Government policies have on individuals.

Money Outsider is my new outlet for exploring financial data. I’m drawn to stories that are hiding in the numbers. I intend to pull together and analyse Freedom of Information requests and public datasets. I like finding out how financial systems actually affect ordinary people, whether that’s student debt, pensions, the cost of living, or how public money gets spent. I intend to publish any underlying data so anyone can check my working or take the analysis further themselves.

A few things to be upfront about. This is a hobby, not a business. Whilst I am a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society, I am far from a professional in this space…therefore, it is likely my analysis will be riddled by ignorance and inaccuracy. I am not selling anything, or promoting any product. Nothing I write here is financial advice. If you need advice about your own money, please speak to a qualified, regulated professional.

Posts will turn up when they turn up. I fit this around a full-time job in Climate Tech, so the schedule is best described as “when I get round to it.”

I’d love to hear from you - you can email basil@moneyoutsider.com
